Letter from the Editor

Dear Colleague

“HORMONES”, the new peer reviewed International Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, has finally been born. Every creation is marked by birth followed by growth and maturation, and we hope that our Journal will follow these evolutionary steps.
Besides competence, enthusiasm constitutes a basic component of any creation and both of these features characterize those who embraced the launching of this Journal and will strive for its success.
One may ask “Was there a need for another Journal? What will another Journal add to education and research promotion?” This question is frequently posed and is difficult to answer satisfactorily. The proof of this need will become evident with the passage of time but obviously will depend primarily on the kind and quality of published papers.
The great ramification and expansion of our field continuously offer interesting and extremely specialized material for publication. Hence, another Journal providing a synthesis of clinical and experimental work is most likely to prove useful.
“HORMONES”, a Journal sponsored by the HELLENIC ENDOCRINE SOCIETY, aims at providing a forum primarily, but not exclusively, for young investigators from various geographic regions. It will also constitute a continuously updated educational tool through its regular publication of reviews by experts in the field.
There will be two novel sections in “HORMONES”, one devoted to the etymology of medical terms and the history of endocrinology, and another in which will be published “puzzling” cases that challenge many clinicians. Comments on such cases may enlighten the case per se as well as broaden our clinical perceptions in general.
The Journal “HORMONES” will be published on a trimonthly basis. The editorial board is composed of well known scientists in the field of Endocrinology and Metabolism from the international community.
There will be no page charges for publication of accepted papers and the full text of the published articles will be available on the internet, free of charge.
We cordially invite interested scientists to submit papers for any of the categories: reviews, original research, patient reports, puzzling cases, etymology of medical terms or history of endocrinology, letters and comments.
We anticipate that your contribution will greatly benefit the growth of “HORMONES” and will conduce to the promotion of endocrine research and education.

With warmest regards
C. Dacou-Voutetakis
